Course Description

Within a care setting, it’s vital for you to be aware of the steps you should take to tackle an array of situations that could lead to pain, discomfort, or even death in some cases for either yourself, or an individual you’re working with. In this course we’ll aim to provide you with the basic knowledge of how to deal with several scenarios from anaphylaxis, all the way through to an unconscious casualty. This course will look at adult resuscitation and basic life support, covering key topics such as how to deal with an unconscious casualty, maintain an airway, provide CPR, and use an AED. We’ll also look at some of the other emergency situations you may encounter. Throughout each chapter, we’ll go into detail on each topic, hoping to give you the confidence and competence to perform these tasks in a safe, prompt and effective way.

  • Understand what first aid is and the role of a first aider
  • Know what a primary survey is and understand the DR ABCD
  • Understand airway maintenance
  • Know how to identify someone choking and react according to their age
  • Understand the effects of anaphylaxis and know how to administer an EpiPen
  • Know how to identify and manage an unconscious person and apply the recovery position
  • Understand when and how to use cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Know how to safely use an automated external defibrillator
