Preventing Radicalisation

Radicalisation is a complex issue, but understanding the signs and knowing how to respond can help prevent individuals from being drawn into extremism.

This course explores Prevent, the government’s strategy to stop people from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. You’ll learn how to identify people who are vulnerable to radicalisation, intervene early, and provide them with support to prevent them from being drawn into terrorism.

This course looks at CONTEST, Prevent, and Channel in relation to our roles while safeguarding individuals vulnerable to being radicalised.

Understanding Radicalisation: Explore the factors that contribute to radicalisation and the different forms it can take.
The Prevent Duty: Learn about the government’s Prevent strategy and your role in implementing it.
Identifying Vulnerability: Recognise the signs and indicators of individuals at risk of radicalisation.
Safeguarding and Support: Discover how to provide support and guidance to those at risk.
Information Sharing: Understand the importance of sharing concerns and the legal framework surrounding information sharing.

  • Identify the health sector responsibilities under Prevent
  • Identify the vulnerability factors that can make individuals susceptible to radicalisation

  • Understand what impact direct or indirect factors might have
  • Know who to contact and where to seek advice
  • Raise concerns and take action
  • Understand the importance of sharing information (including the consequences of failing to do so).
