Course Description

Parkinson’s disease, often known as ‘Parkinson’s’, is a condition that affects the brain, causing symptoms such as shaking and stiffness of the limbs. Being a progressive disease, symptoms usually get worse over time eventually resulting in individuals having difficulty walking and talking. Whilst the cause of the disease is unknown, we can clarify the disease for you to ensure you are able to understand what it is and how to best support and care for individuals who have been diagnosed with it.

  • Be able to identify of the signs and symptoms of the disease
  • Know the stages of progression of Parkinson’s disease
  • Be able to describe how the disease is diagnosed and tested for
  • Understand the challenges Parkinson’s disease brings and the impact it has on individual’s lives
  • Know the treatments and therapies available for individuals with this disease
  • Know how to best support and care for individuals who have Parkinson’s disease
  • Be aware of promoting and supporting active participation
  • Be able to explain how to monitor the disease and record and report accordingly
