Two new courses have just launched on FuturU, each designed to support safer, more informed care. Whether you’re navigating airway support or understanding legal frameworks in Scotland, these courses offer practical, accessible learning for care professionals at every level.

Airway Management: Updated, interactive, and essential

The newly updated Airway Management course is a must-have for any care setting where airway support may be required. Completely reworked for 2025, our new version is more interactive, more structured, and more effective at helping you build knowledge that sticks.

What you’ll learn

This course brings together clinical knowledge and practical guidance in a clear, accessible way. It covers:

  • Anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system
  • Use of airway devices in different scenarios
  • Oxygen therapy and non-invasive ventilation (CPAP, BiPAP, nebulisers, cough assist devices)
  • Human factors in airway management
  • Basic observations and vital signs
  • Airway management in critically ill individuals.

While it doesn’t replace hands-on training, this course provides a strong foundation for understanding the principles and responsibilities involved in airway care.

Why it matters

This course supports safer care delivery by promoting evidence-informed practice and awareness of professional responsibilities. With a strong emphasis on escalation, teamwork, and safety, it prepares learners for real-world scenarios – not just theory.

Even if you’ve completed the previous version, it’s worth revisiting. The content has been updated, the format is more engaging, and the learning journey is completely restructured.

Who it’s for

This course is ideal for:

  • Health and social care professionals supporting individuals with respiratory conditions
  • Staff involved in airway management decisions
  • Teams looking to refresh or standardise their knowledge.

Whether you’re new to the topic or experienced and looking to update your skills, this course offers something valuable.

Adults with Incapacity: A course tailored for Scotland

The Adults with Incapacity course was created to reflect the specific legal framework in Scotland, where the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000 applies. While FuturU already offers a course on the Mental Capacity Act for England and Wales, this new course ensures that Scottish care professionals have access to relevant, localised learning.

Why it matters

As Content Developer Belinda Southby explains, the Scottish Act places a strong emphasis on supported decision-making. It encourages adults to remain as independent and involved in their own care decisions as possible, even when they lack capacity in certain areas.

This approach is more nuanced than the Mental Capacity Act in England and Wales, and the course highlights these differences clearly.

How you’ll learn

Throughout this course, you’ll be guided by Lisa. You’ll encounter a mix of written and video content, with knowledge checks at the end of each chapter to keep you on track.

Who it’s for

This course is designed for:

  • Care professionals working in Scotland
  • Anyone involved in decision-making processes for adults with capacity issues
  • Staff responsible for understanding and applying Section 47 certificates.

It’s particularly useful for care professionals who need to know where to find information about a person’s capacity and how to act within the scope of the law.
