How inclusive, empathetic, and compassionate is your practice?
We’ve just launched three new Self Assessments on the FuturU platform to help you explore these essential qualities in your day-to-day work. Each tool is quick to complete, easy to use, and designed to support your personal and professional growth.
Whether you’re new to care or have years of experience, these assessments offer a moment to pause, reflect, and strengthen how you support others.

01 Self assessment: Being inclusive and respectful of differences
In social care, we work with people from all walks of life. That means different cultures, religions, languages, family structures, and ways of living. This assessment helps you reflect on how well you notice, respect, and respond to those differences.
What to expect from this self assessment:
- You’ll be presented with 10 statements with five rating options to choose from – this should take no longer than five minutes to complete
- At the end of the assessment, your personalised score will be mapped to one of four inclusivity bands
- You’ll then get a clear, personalised snapshot of your current inclusivity strengths, with practical, band-specific suggestions you can put into practice straight away – from asking open questions to sharing inclusive practices with your team.
This tool is for reflection and growth, but it’s not a diagnostic test.
Inclusion isn’t just a value – it’s a daily practice. And this tool helps you build confidence in creating safe, respectful spaces for everyone.
02 Self assessment: Empathy
Empathy is about tuning into others’ emotions and responding with care. This assessment helps you explore how well you notice, understand, and respond to the feelings of those around you.
What to expect from this self assessment:
- You’ll be prompted to pick from five rating options for each of the 10 statements
- At the end of the assessment, your total score will be calculated and your result will be mapped to one of five empathy bands
- Your empathy band will be revealed, and you’ll be provided with personalised suggestions you can use right away, such as active listening techniques, noticing body language, and how to care for your own wellbeing.
This tool is adapted from the Empathy Quotient (EQ), developed by Professor Simon Baron-Cohen and colleagues at the University of Cambridge. It’s designed to be supportive, not diagnostic.
03 Self assessment: Compassion
Compassion is at the heart of social care. It means recognising when someone is struggling, connecting with their experience, and taking action to help. This assessment helps you reflect on how you show compassion in your everyday practice.
What to expect from this self assessment:
- You’ll be presented with 15 statements, each with five rating options to choose from
- At the end of the assessment, your total score will be calculated and your result mapped to one of five compassion bands
- You’ll then get practical, band-specific suggestions, including mindfulness, mentoring and setting boundaries, which you can start using right away.
This tool draws on validated measures like the Sinclair Compassion Questionnaire and the Sussex-Oxford Compassion for Others Scale, adapted for real-world care settings.
Why these tools matter
These assessments aren’t tests – they’re reflective tools to help you grow. They offer:
- A clear snapshot of your strengths
- Practical ideas you can use immediately
- Space to think about your experiences and how you might adapt
Each one takes just a few minutes to complete and can spark meaningful conversations with colleagues or managers.
